Hi, I bought a Marland sign today which I am looking for information on. I have a picture on my phone but can't get it loaded on here.
The sign is diecut just like the 5' Conoco triangle sign but is 23 1/2" by 23 1/2". The sign is 3 colors black on the outside edge, white and then red. It's too big for a pump plate but don't know if it is real or what it is for?
Thanks for any help

It was Marland before it was Conoco.
I am always looking for anything Texaco or Oklahoma oil and gas company's, also I am a newbie at seeking globes.

Not sure it is real? I have not seen one like it before. My small Conoco sign like this is 29" x 26.5". Also the M in Marland looks off to me? I will go out to the shop tomorrow and look at some of my Marland signs to get a better Idea. I also have a bunch of Marland station photos, I will look them over for you. If it is real, good for you! Ric
Wanted: Conoco, Marland, Eason, Cliff Brice, Speedway and Oval E stuff!

I have one of these same signs. They were made for Vic Raupe the guy that started Vics 66, He later sold out to Seth.. He told me he had the CONOCO signs made in this size for his store and had them make "a few" of the MARLAND, just for fun..This was about 20 to 25 years ago. This is only the second one I have seen except the one I have..I guess it would actually be a fantasy sign.

I believe Vic had them made by Southwestern Porcelain in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. I once was told around 25 were made (which probably means 50+ lol). The shelving is very good and the quality is outstanding for a fantasy sign.
I once paid $2400 for one of these at an auction in IN, (maybe the same sign of topic in this thread) as it had some edge chipping and signs of age. It was listed as 30" and was 23.5". Luckily the auctioneer was a man of integrity and refunded my money, he eventually sold the sign at a subsequent sale as a reproduction and I believe it brought $350.
Unfortunately, the sign in the center of this discussion is fantasy. I strongly doubt that the 23.5" triangle ever existed and knowing they were reproduced.......... My Marland porcelain signs are large die cut triangle, rectangle grease "every cup, every time" and the round curb sign. Ric has a few other porcelain versions that I don't.
Anything Marland is obviously pre-1929. They used a lot more painted metal flat/flange and embossed tin than porcelain. One interesting note on the large die-cut porcelain Identification signs.......during the 1930 conversion of stations, they made a small Conoco sign (maybe 3"x24/30") and bolted it to the large sign covering the cross bar of the triangle logo that says Marland. If you ever see a circa 5 ft porcelain conoco triangle sign with a small Conoco sign bolted on the cross bar........take it off you in fact have a Marland sign, also the red is a little darker on these.

Collect small Oklahoma Oil Co.'s 1920's-1940's. Barnsdall, Cushing, Eason, Marland, etc.
