Heres what I've heard. Some(Most?)bubble wrap is made with petroleum by products. It actually can react with oil based some paints on signs or whatever, and leaves marks like when you find NOS stuff and cant get that last little bit of gloss back in areas. It happens sometimes -not all. I've also heard there is some synthetic stuff that wont do this. Disposable baby diapers, paper towels or rags are safe. Its easy to get lazy and just wrap it in bubble wrap and put it in a box, though.

I have had some auto painted bumper covers that were wrapped in bubble on shelves and yes after time the bubble does leave marks in the paint.

If an object is that sensitive, then I'd advise against newsprint, also. I can see where the ink from a newspaper could come off and stain, but you can also by end rolls of news print paper (un-printed)from your local newspaper very inexpensively and they work well. Also good for packing. Correct. I was thinking of printed paper. Again, I feel the stability of the object or the finish should determine your choice of materials. But, better safe than sorry, I guess.
