$5000-$6000 for a globe? I just don't get it. The amount of money people spend on this hobby is outrageous. There are many charitable organizations that could put a donation of that size to real use.

* Red Cross president and CEO Gail McGovern is $500,000
* United Way’s chief Brian Gallagher is $560,000 a year in annual compensation.
* American Cancer Society CEO which is about one-third the size of the Red Cross, earns $914,000 a year

Tell country music & celebrity apprentice star Trace Adkins your Red Cross findings.
Those are not the charities I think of when I give.
$5000-$6000 can feed 3 people daily for a year in my area.

It is quite possible that the people with the wherewithal to pay that kind of money for petroliana also find it to their advantage taxwise to make generous donations to various charities, and do so.

Quite frankly, their purchases more than likely enhance the value of my collection (pitiful by some standards, excessive by others).

My family makes fairly generous tax deductible charitable (and religious) contributions which are really no one's business, but I'll just bet there's somebody out there saying "if Dave Richey didn't spend all that money on all that old sh*# he buys, he could....."
