About a year ago I switched insurance companies at my business where I have most of my collectables displayed. After having an inspection done I was informed that any coverage on collectables would have to have each item appraised and they would only cover items that are housed under an alarm system. I was told that any items in my house also would apply to the same regulations. I was told that any item that is not a necessity to sustain life wouldn't be covered unless it was appraised. The only coverage would be if you have a high amount on your content coverage but most insurance companies only pay the replacement value. They seem to have gotten wise and don't hand out the big cheque now days. Maybe us north of the border have different rules but I would highly suggest having appraisals done on any high dollar items. I have since had all my valuable items appraised and hopefully if something were to happen I will know that I have done my part to make a claim go smoothly. Food for thought.

Just insured mine last month - $404/yr for well over $50K through Collectibles Insurance Agency . Also installed a security system as well. Now when I'm away traveling I sleep better. To sum it up, don't get caught without it.
