I found this at the old Red Crown Station that I was cleaning out this week with the snakes. The old owner did not remember what it was. I went ahead and took it. WHAT IS IT? I was thinking it was for the oil bottles but my repros from Seths would not fit in the bottom without cutting the tops off about 1 inch. Now I am thinking a newspaper stand? It is kinda neat...

Looks like it might be a soda empties rack. It would hold three of the wooden crates for the empty bottles to be stored in. You would usually find them beside the soda machine. If it is, probably a generic one since no brand sign. Try posting a pic at the www.sodamachines.com forum, they can tell you for sure.

It could be a "Cool Cushions" display or seat covers, my Dad sold a bunch of them every summer before everyone had air conditioners. I guess everyone remembers what cool cushions are??

I wouldnt think that its a newspaper rack. There is nothing there to keep the papers held in place. They would just fall over because of their own weight. The "Cool Cushion" thing seems like its the most likley... Just my guess...

..should take three crates, for empty soda bottles...I've got a newer Dr Pepper one, and three crates used to haul 4 cartons of 6 bottles (not 24 individual bottles)...they are the perfect size for your compact discs!

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

Nope - it was found outside by some old Crown Cola signs and a Red Crown Pilon Sign. I tried the glass oil bottle on it - they did fit on the top well - but on the bottom 2 racks the bottles tops would have to be cut off about 1 1/2 inch to let them fit.

I will get some measurments tommorow and try to test fit a newspaper.

The rack will fold up in the back. I asked the guy that owned the station if there was ever a pop machine here and he did not know...

It is hard to tell if this went with the gas station or not. I found a TON of old WW2 Boewing Air Craft metal blue print signs in the same area I found this.

If the newspapers do not fit I will swing by some antique stores looking for the old wooden crate soda bottle box's and see if they fit...

I did not take any of them, they are still at the old gas station with the following:

The origianl Tire Machine, with all the original tools.

about 12 quart cans of Mobil ATF fulid filled.

About 18 metal 15 oz cans of Texaco Motor Detergent NOS filled.

About 144 NOS Mobil Maps from the 60s for Kansas ans surrounding states.

1 painted over sign of RC Cola.

The original Cash Register for the station from the 60's still filled with cash? YES it is... All the bills were still from the 60's and coins.

And then about 50-60 folded 6 pack cardboard packs for the pop - mostly RC and Nehi, and 7 up/bubble up I think.

And LOTS of other things, sorry no globes and YES I looked in the attic. There is still a sealed trailer out back that I have not had a chance to pop the locks on too - might have more in there he says.

SO:::::::

I have cut a deal with the owner of the old station to sell ALL of this on ebay for him and keep 20% of the cash for me after expenses. I refused his offer of giving me 50% - because I did not feel that was right since I got the pumps so cheap. AND yea I told him that... I told him I would wait until it got warmer out and he is find with that. Do you want to do this for me? I really do not want to bother with it but would help for a small fee. If so let me know.

Thats real nice of you to do that for him. Especially at such a low rate. How Is there any chance that any of that stuff will be available to oldgas members before it goes to e-bay? Inquiring minds want to know....

Yeah - consider me an inquiring mind too

Interested in Boeing stuff (in line behind Thunder).

And Mobil reciepts.

Everything you mentioned in the place is good loot. Wish I had that tire machine! I could use that for sure...

FYI:

I tried a news paper today from the 30's "because they made them smaller with time.." - No good.

One of the guys in the local car club had one of those "Cool Cushions" and it would not even come close.

I am going to buy a wood soda rack and see it if fits.
