I have read many stories on this site about people finding signs in dumps, tearning down buildings, digging in yards and finding long lost signs etc....well this is the first sign I have ever gotten for FREE..I was recently in northern Calif visiting my son in San Jose.....my in laws know that I collect Oil and Gas,especially Tidewater Associated Oil co...they told me they had a item that I might be interested in and it was for FREE..I said yes and they told me about this RPM sign...my inlaw`s best friend owned a Walnut orchard in Stockton Calif..so we made the 2hr trip up there to see..low and behold they had a barn on the orchard that they were going to tear down because it was about ready to fall down on its own...here was the sign buried in dirt with oil and grease cans etc stacked on it..the owner said, it had been there as long as he could remember,at least from the 50`s when he took over the orchard..he was very happy that someone would take it cause it didn`t mean anything to him and he was going to trash it,but thank God my inlaw spotted and saved it from the dump...so the story ends with me being the proud owner of this sign..I`m pretty happy about it ,and never thought it would happen to me....so here are the before and after pictures..cleaned up pretty good for how bad it was...
i`m going to post in value section to see if anyone knows what yr it is since their is no date on it...
txs a lot Alan......soryy I screwed up and posted the final picture twice

Great story and I am glad you saved it , the signs that are being found lately stuck in the concrete and dirt are the greatest ! Thanks

Yeah Alan, you really screwed up! Should have sent it on to Western Pennsylvania! Great story & great find. Some of the very best items in my collection were gifts from other non-collectors. Sam
