I am a newbie and have begun to restore a Fry Model 117 my great-grandfather purchased. Overall I think it is in pretty good shape but missing a few screws, nuts & bolts. Is there a diagram available which shows all the parts? The rings on the cylinder need to be replaced...what is the best way to remove without breaking the glass? Also, what is the best way to clean the glass...has paint and residue stains. I plan to take and have sandblasted then primed. Reassemble and paint...easier said than done...I'm sure. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

PLEASE-Do not, under any circumstances, attempt to remove those metal rings from the cylinder. That cylinder may expand and it will crack all the way around.
Use the gas pump restoration guide as a reference. Take before and after pictures, notes, and mark everything. You should be OK...

It seems that the cylinder bolts are gone? The top should lift off and the cylinder can be loosened by using a very thin putty knife, under the bottom metal ring. Carefully work the knife around the base. It should only be held in place with a cork gasket? Be sure you have help when you lift the glass off. You'll want to pass it to someone on the ground. Yes, thanks. The cylinder bolts were removed before the picture. The cork gasket needs to be replaced as well. Any thoughts on how to clean the glass?

Automatic dishwashing liquid and Scotchbrite pad. Remove the paint with a razor blade/scraper. Dave

Dave, that did the trick plus a little elbow grease. Rings look OK. One has a rust spot that can be easily fixed. Going to try to take the rest to get sandblasted this week.

Just back from sandblasting and priming. Going to paint red to match an old Phillips 66 sign. Any recommendations for a paint job for outside display to best protect from the elements?

OLD 66 signs were Orange, not Red.

You can't go wrong with red on a Fry pump. It is just a generic color that lends itself to many brands. Brush paint it and use some of the techniques described in an earlier thread to give it "character". Dave
