There were a lot of neat gas stations in Lynchburg in the past. I have see some old pictures in the past and I tried to buy a collection of photos one time of the many billboards that were around town. There where a lot of service station related billboards in odd places. One was in the yard of what is now city hall.

The Firestone sign almost got mangled in a storm a few years ago. They straightened it up and tightened it to its post not too long ago. This tells me they care about it.

I have not been to Fredricksburg since since March when I went to Mason Dixon. I don't remember seeing the Shell station.

There are some neat stations and other buildings near Carl's ice cream near the old Coca Cola bottling plant in Fredericksburg, but they're not on 3. I'm trying to picture what's close to downtown on Route 3. We go every so often so I'll take pictures the next time we do.

Carl's looks good.

I took a few more pictures this morning. The first one is of a great place to eat.It was a station in its former life, but now it is home cooked food and inexpensive. Had a great omelet there this morning. There is a small bulk plant behind it.

I own a property around the circle from this next little station. There is what use to be an auto dealer next door.

The blue roof station is only a few blocks up the hill.

This one was a Shell station at one point. I was able to get the Shell sign when the owner had a yard sale one day , many years ago.

I like the Titusville Iron Fireman sign in the 2nd pic above. I just hung mine up today (got it from the house my wife grew up in).

My parents used to live in Bedford Co. I used to always notice cool things in the Lynchburg/Roanoke area. Thanks for posting!

I love the Iron Fireman stuff. I have several signs, ash trays and a coin. Still trying to find a round sign reasonable. I am very patient when it comes to these things.

I saw your post about the sign. Cool

Here is a follow up on what has happened to a nice old Pure station. A few years ago and today. The Chinese came in and put their spin of modern to the building. Quite shameful in my opinion. It was better as a tire store. {it's last use}

The one you posted on 9/14/13, did it use to be a store with American Indian items?
