When I do this, I ask/tell any exclusionary factors up front: "I will take it if it..." "I will take it, if you will accept..." , etc.
I'm with many others, "I'm interested" as a stand alone term doesn't do much for me. I'm 'interested' in a lot of things.
That being said, it behooves the seller to make all pertinent information and pictures clear in the ad. That would simplify the process.

As Dick said I also saw this for sale ad also and the picture and description left a lot of unanswered questions. Therefore I can see emails coming in with I'm interested or questions on the item. I would not want to commit on it either without some questions answered rather than buy it now and ask questions later.
Moral of the story, good pictures and descriptions as Dave mentioned would have helped a lot in this case.

If Matt was the first to say he'd take it, it should go to him. The same picture was available to both parties and he was the first to post with a definitive answer! When I saw the ad--I'll take it was already posted or I would have posted the same answer. I was just too late, but I'll take it! LOL

I was at the Portland swap meet a few years ago with two friends. We were looking at a Nomad liftgate and my two friends were arguing who saw it first to buy it. Then someone reached over their shoulders with a $50.00 bill pays for it then picks it up and walks away. They stood there looking at each other like what just happened! It taught me a lesson.

That is a very good lesson thanks for sharing. I would go with the person that responded first.

The Plot Thickens! I guess there was another Old Gasser that posted he would take it in less than a minute after it was posted?? It should really go to the first commitment to buy, but its your pump and you have to make that decision and hopefully the others will understand your reasoning!

If the man sold it what's to talk about. I emailed as soon as I seen it that I would take it. It's a 36B. Worth every bit of 850 and more in just what can be seen! Factor in its a 36 B DP!!! Whoever got got a heck of a deal.
Can't even sell anything here without drama

Larry--The owner himself asked for opinions and started this thread. I wouldn't consider that drama.

George,I have been in the same situation. Most reasonable people understand how it works. When people post for sale items there may always be more questions before someone can make a decision.I say answer first questions and give some fair time.It is not easy to make everyone happy.Just give first question people fair time to make a decision.ex. Joe you were the first PM and here is the answer to your question. Please respond in the next 24 hrs because I have another person that says they will take it.Thanks again!George.

First let me say if I would have ask more to what the pump was worth no one would have cared who got what. With that said this is what I did The man that I sold it to was the first that called with in min. of posting my phone number and the second pm on the pump He wanted the pump sign and eco The first pm ask about the eco only.
I needed money for my corvette and that was the only reason for selling anything at all. So it comes down to this he was the first to take almost all I was selling and other people wanted the eco and no one is saying anything about it because it was not that big of a bargain, I think most people would have done the same thing I did. By the way Larry if I hit the power ball tonight you will get a 36b real soon George

Obviously the the items were yours to sell how you wanted to and I dont have a problem with that. But when I first saw your ad it was 917pm and as of 655pm saturday evening (your last post and 4 hours after posting the ad) it sounded to me as if no one had commited to anything at that time and that " you would get back to everyone in the order they replied" (no 1 minute sale as stated)so nothing must have been sold at that point?. So at 917pm I saw enough of what I needed (the top and clock guts) for 850 and the rest I didnt really care about so I didnt ask 50 questions, I simply posted "I will take the 36b period" and also sent a PM with my phone number and also sent a direct email again with my phone number both stating I would get you the money overnight, paypal or whatever you preferred. And since I'm not the type of guy who calls someone at a late hour so I waited. However I did notice that my PM to you was read within 20 mins of being sent "unread by none" yet no reply of anykind ?, so I waited until sunday morning and called you at 1019am to confirm and you told me the pump was sold.......heres the part where I get kinda lost, why bother to post somewhat of an opinion/ poll of "who gets the pump ?" at 855am sunday if you had your mind made up already by 1017am ? Would I have paid more for the pump, probably but I would have asked many questions....... would I have bought all of what you were selling (most likely what happened) just to get the pump itself, YEP ! O well, maybe next time.....

And then there are those that call you and say "I will take it" and then don't answer emails for over 24 hours and then back out when you could have sold the item to 3 other people.Word gets around. Very difficult to fix a tarnished reputation. Dave Jones
