Over the weekend I saw a pump at an antique store and have been unable to find anything about it. It was an A O Smith model 483. The pump had a stainless steel top and sides as well as porcelain door panels. It had chrome around the meter window and porcelain face plates. The pump was approximately 4.5 feet tall and had rounded corners. It appeared to be a late 50's early 60's pump. Can anyone tell me about this pump, years produced, value, etc? Thanks.

This pump was produced in 1960. It is also called the "Salesman 48" thus the 4ft height.
Is it restored or un-restored? Does it have any writing across the faceplate like Keotane for example? I have one of these pumps in restored condition. They look nice with a globe that has an aluminum ring.

Mine is unrestored. I cleaned it up, replaced the nozzle and added fire chief signs. It still has the original 1978 state sticker on the meter face glass. It does not have any writing across the face plate. Looks almost brand new. I have since seen a few for sale on the net for 400-500.

The 483 was originally a Erie pump the 48. After Smith acquired Erie, Smith renumbered the unit the 483. It was sold into the 1960s.
