I've seen a few of these over the years, I don't think they were home made. There's a very nice one pictured in one of the earlier Collectors Auction catalogs

That is what I was saying, thought it was a great piece last time also. Just to high though then. Would look great restored with a set of lenses in it.

i like to be wrong as much as i like being right. so ill offer my logic to this piece.
the condulet "T" fitting looks like it is aluminum. i could be wrong on this. but i would guess that this should be a cast iron piece.
the stem holding the lamp socket doesn't look right. the lamp socket is to modern as well.
anyone have a picture of another??

The aluminum socket is the same type that I have on some of my old visibles. The conduit connector look like cast, but you could be right. It certainly looks old though, would love to have it. Good eye though.

I agree it's a great piece. I can't figure out what might have been at the far end of the pipe that looks like frayed wires hanging out. Another socket to light up bottom sign?

The insert looks like it could be from a radio station. That thing on the right could be a base where it could have been attached to either a wall or a ceiling (exterior?).
No doubt a neat piece and evidently scarce if not rare. The final price wasn't too bad considering what he had hoped for earlier.

I wasn't sure what this was either... But it looked cool so I bought it - Will let you know more when it shows up.
