I am surprised nobody bid on this thing! That's the one model I have always wanted, and it's sort of complete. As a kid I remember the slogan, "Penny Pinching Pumps" and dad selecting the "custom blend" to put in the old Chevelle. I would love to get one to put inside my home! (with guts of course)

Well, I did e-mail him but someone else already bought it. At least I know now that those pumps are not that valuable and there have to be others out there.

http://store.vintagepaperads.com/servlet/-strse-18646/1978-Sunoco-Gas-Ad/Detail this is the ad I remember growing up. We lived a few blocks from the Sunoco station and that was why I liked the pump.

$95 was just the opening. IF it had been listed in a better category or used some key words, would probably have sold for approx. $450

I was just about to add that the pump pictured is not a blend pump, when I saw Joe's post. It doesn't look like it ever was a blend pump, probably the glass got broke and the repair guy had this good used one, so he put it in this pump.
I picture seven different Wayne blend pumps in my new Gas Pump ID book, and one of the pictures shows 5 different variations of just one of the pumps.
Since I didn't put any pumps newer than 1965 in the book, not shown are all the blend pumps made by other pump companies, such as Tokheim & Bennett.
One more thing, we all remember the Sunoco blend pump, but just about every oil company used the blend pumps during the late 1960s.

Remember these:

I have so much to learn. I thought all blend-o-matic pumps had multiple grades. What I figured is that one motor was removed, and the extra parts pulled out when they set it up for kerosene. With a pump like that I wonder if collectors still gut the blend pumps like the others. Besides Wayne, who else made that type of pump? Unlike many collectors, I actually prefer late 60's-70's pumps because they go with my old cars and when I grew up.

We had a topic here on Shop Talk a long time ago that had information about the blender pumps being converted to single product use. After they were used for many years, blenders were rebuilt for non-commercial farm, fleet and inexpensive station replacement units. They took out the blending parts and put in standard parts. This pump is evidence that the original ID plate and "Custom Blended" markings were still on at least some pumps after conversion.

I don't think this pump would be worth as much as a blender with all the parts intact. The selector handle, blend grade choice markings, blend mechanism, multigrade face plate and computer are what makes the pump unique and more interesting. While we usually gut most electric pumps of their motor and pump, any pump with something unique should keep the parts that make it unique, in my opinion.

I had to look up that "coast to coast" radio show but I liked that they tested the "water4gas" device to prove it is useless. As a biofuel minded guy I would love to see the day when many of us have our own fuel production and pump fuel in our vehicles with our own classic pumps. Any idea if there is contact info for this person who wanted to use blend pumps?

I don't think I am smart enough to make my own alcohol base fuel and probably to old to learn, but one of the pumps I got from our retired Standard Oil dealer was an Erie which looks to be a Mod.748-10 in Jacks book. The only thing the dealer had used it for while he owned it was to blend his own "Gasohol" which it used to be called. He used it only to pump alcohol into a blend tank and mixed gasoline with it.Pretty primitive. In later years he could get it from the refineries, and didn't need the pump so he gave it to me. It is covered with a different kind of crud than a gas pump.Norm.

That pump is set up for dual product.
The side is set up for single product.
The plate under the computer has two drives.
but not enough room for two computers, it also has a VEEDER ROOT electric reset.
Both outlets from the meters go to the same place as far as I can tell.
It should be a blender but has been converted .The meter mounting plate has been sealed to keep product from comming out of it
when the other pump is working.

If it was a dual product it would have a hose on each side, and the original piping would have been going to the two different sides. One thing I missed too....
the computer is a 2002 or 2002-E....over $1.00 a gallon...1.99.9 or 2.99.9
It HAS to be a blender. Also there is a plate on the side opposite the hose....
isn't that where the GRADE SELECTOR knob was?

If it was a single product dual it would have one pump, one motor, two meters and two computers, and two hoses

A dual product, dual pump would have two pumps, two motors, two meters, two computers two hoses.
Not enough space or correct mounting for two computers.

In the past I found two blend pumps, one Wayne and one Tokheim. Two be honest with you I could not move the Tokheim off the island alone once it was unbolted. I thought about saving the guts but decided that it was not worth risking a future back injury.I end up gutting the pump right were it stood. Let me tell you that is a hard pump to gut. Very compact with the two units crammed in the cabinet!

What I have found works well is an engine crane (cherry picker). I have never encountered a pump that heavy, but I disassembled a pair of pinsetters from a bowling alley and moved the heavy parts with the engine crane I took apart and transported in my trunk. If it's really heavy I could just bring my Bobcat..LOL!
