Sorry, I've been gone for a few days to answer the replies. First, the guy I saw is in Colorado Springs and has tons of things not just limited to oldgas. He has things that I had to ask what they were and that doesn't happen very often.(A kerosene powered portable bathtub for example).

And why, pray tell, didn't you edit the post that you edited my reply to?

Everyone has opinions on what different stuff is worth. Condition plays a big role in determining what an item is worth. Even geography and economics can play a part in what someone will pay for an item. I think we are all in agreement that as collectors we can only do what we can within our means. We all love this stuff and have our opinions on what it may be worth but but utimately their our opinions and although many people may share the same opinion some will not. Shop talk is an awesome place to share opinions as long as it doesnt include personal attacks. Remember the common thread that binds us to shop talk is we ALL love this old service station stuff. We are here to learn and have fun.

I'm quite certain I did not level a personal attack, nor did I insinuate that what somebody else has is a piece of **** but what I have is priceless. It's the proverbial- as long as you have it, it's junk. But if i have it, it's an "antique". Thus obviously worth infinitely more.

I hope we are not getting nitpicky on what can and cant be said. That is not the way to get this done! I say if you are going to deleate 1 you need to do both. Back to the fair is fair thing.

Not trying to stir anything up, just offering my opinion which is worth about 2cents Canadian!!

One pump being talked about is a very common pump, the other is fairly scarce as far as I can tell. That does not mean they may not be fairly common in a certain region.

So this sounds like if someone were trading that one is worth more than the other. That would of course be if both were in the same condition, which may not be the case. However in the world of trading, this may or may not matter.!! Both parties may like the other parties product better than the one they have. And some look at what they have into it, not what they could (or someone else thinks they should) get for their product.

Ultimately it boils down to what the trading parties are comfortable with..IMO.

I have done some crazy trades, quite wild I must say!!

Have fun with your deals!!

I realize everything the moderators do wont be in favor with everyone. Please remember we dont delete or edit much and arent happy when we have to take such action. I believe it was sslicks opinion that was posted and the portion edited out of daveb post was completely directed at sslick since it named him by name. If users think ill of me for doing my job I certainly regret that but I stand by my decision for I only have the best interest of the site and ALL of its users at heart. I explained to daveb in a personal email why I had edited his post and that he should email sslick directly his thoughts. We are trying to keep dischord down and make shop talk the happy learning place it was set up to be. Feel free to email me directly with your thoughts or disagreements. Thanks for your cooporation.

It is also sslicks opinion directed at me, named or not. As I said before, I can't stand the "everything you have is junk, but if I had it, it's an antique" attitude. But by the way, I've got a good deal for you. Please. Excuse me for not having the "good stuff". It would never occur to me to even have the possibility of a hint of putting down what someone else has. And if you don't see that in that post, then what more can I say? And if you sent me an e-mail explaining your rationale, it has yet to arrive.

Wow, I'm almost afraid to participate in this since I'm still a newbie after two plus years. Wonder why? I'm not offended SSlick, will phone you on the Ottawa. Kim
