OK, somebody wanted more technical questions, so here goes...

What is the correct frame color on a Bennett 640? It looks to have traces of a silver-colored paint or thin coating of some kind. It polishes up pretty nicely with a wire brush, but is bare in a few spots.

Would it be best to powder-coat it silver, or just brush and spray with paint or some coating?

thanks o pump gurus, this site is great!

Most of the ones I've torn down just had a thin coat of paint or even primer (I'm talking about most pumps in general). Best finishes I've seen for restorations are silver hammer tone and flat black. I never really wanted to call attention to the frames and most of the time the pump is closed anyhow.

I think the polish that you're getting is just the underlying metal.

Powder coat is the deluxe resto, rattle can hammer tone is suitable and probably a lot cheaper. Most original manufacturers didn't even put much paint on the inside of the skins, if any.
