Does anyone produce 90 degree porcelain light socket base with the 1/2" pipe thread end? Been looking everywhere and haven't been able to find them. I know I can use a pipe 90 with a straight base on it ,but,I would have to resize the conduit up to that point.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Kurt

Any good electric supply house can order them for you. They are still being made.

Hey Dick- I went to two electrical supply places today and they both looked at me like I was nuts when I showed them the 90 degree base with a 1/2' pipe thread end. They said they could not order them. I also checked the big box stores and a few local hardware outlets with no luck.
Do you know of a place on the internet I might purchase a couple? Thanks - Kurt

Kurt you might want to try Satco. Their phone # is 800-43-SATCO. Their web address is www.satco.com, they should be able to tell you if they make the socket and who sells their product in your area. An electrical/plumbing store may have just what you are looking for if you have one in your area. A number of large electrical dist. only cater to the contractor. Good luck.

Do you have the original sockets the were in the pump?

If so, do what I do - get replacement porcelain sockets from Lowe's or Home Depot.
They sell them individually in plastic 'bags' with a small 1/4" threaded adaptor (for lamp repair).

Take your old sockets and remove them from the 90-degree fittings - then replace the old rusted-out sockets with the new ones you just bought. Re-wire everything and you're all set!

If you can't get the original mounting screws loose, try using a Dremel or similar tool to reach down into the old socket and gring off the heads of the two mounting screws. Usually - I said usually - once you get the nasty socket off of the 90-degree base unit, you can use small 'lock-jaw' pliers to unscrew what's left of the screws. The vibration of grinding off the heads usually loosens them enough to remove.

Otherwise, soak them in WD-40 for a while and try again.

Later . . .

Jim

T-way:
I always replace the porcelain sockets on the pumps I do with new ones from Home Depot.
The problem I have with the pump I'm currently working on is that the 90 degree fitter is broken where it threads on to the 1/2"pipe.
I have bought 1/2" pipe thread fitters with the porcelain socket from Gas Pump Heaven, but, they were straight fitters and not the 90 degree type.
I could put a pipe 90 on the end with a straight fitter but I will have to rebend new pipe from the junction box to allow for the extra length caused by the pipe 90. This will be extra work for sure... I thought about using a rubber socket with leads and mounting it to the 1/2" pipe somehow. I'm not sure I like that idea but it might work.
I'm open for suggestions if anyone has one! Thanks - Kurt

Kurt:

If you have all the parts from the broken 90-degree fitting - sandblast them and then epoxy them back together (or on the end of the pipe).

After all, these aren't weight bearing or structural. I've used epoxy specifically formulated for metal with good results.

Or maybe someone has a 'scrap' pump with a good 90-degree fitting you could get?

I'll check this weekend and see if I have anything for you.

Good luck.
