Sky chief was the premium brand. The pumps were silver. The Fire Chief was the regular grade. I don't think Texaco used "regular" or "premium" on their ad glass on the pumps. Before Sky chief came around in the late 30s, Texaco did refer to their premium brand as Ethyl.

In the beginning, there was TEXACO Gasoline. Then came TEXACO Ethyl. In 1932, FIRE-CHIEF was introduced (replacing TEXACO Gasoline) and FIRE-CHIEF Ethyl replaced TEXACO Ethyl. In 1938, Sky Chief replaced FIRE-CHIEF Ethyl. TEXACO and FIRE-CHIEF pumps were painted TEXACO red. TEXACO Ethyl, FIRE-CHIEF Ethyl and Sky Chief pumps were painted aluminum. (Most TEXACO stations also offered INDIAN Gasoline - as a third grade - from 1931 to 1943. INDIAN pumps were either TEXACO or INDIAN red.) All pumps were to have a black base.
