I need some help with this sign. This sign is NOT porcelain. It is painted metal and two sided. It is 42 inches with a little extra with the black extensions. It has Walker makers mark on the bottom of both sides. My question is is this sign authentic or has someone seen a reproduction like this. The guy who has it on his barn says he has had it for 20 years. He wants $300 for it so it's enough I don't want to buy it if it is a repro. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks--Russell

It is on the inside of his barn. I took it out to photo it. Is that a vote for repro? It does have numerous scratches and I photographed the better side

If it was real $300 would be a screaming deal, but I am sure it is a Repop also.

General Motors authorized reproductions of these a few years back. They were painted and marked Walker. Not dated and I think they were marketed by a Chevrolet club. If I remember correctly they were a lot more than 300.00 back then.

I'm not a fan of repops, but this one looks good, is authorized, and is a heck of a lot cheaper than you'll ever see a real one. I'm afraid I'd have to go for it.

Repro in my opinion. As already stated, price point should be a dead giveaway.

All the original WALKER Auto dealer signs that I have owned or come across have been porcelain.

Single sided, backside likely white right? Repro, but still there are guys who will pay $300+ to hang it in a shop.

Carolinaskies--
The sign that I have pictured is double sided. I don't understand the message from the seller because that is not about the sign I am looking at.

I would agree that the price point is low except that he has sold me many porcelain signs that are definitely real for a lot less. This is the most he has asked for a sign so I had to consider that it might be legit.

Thanks for everyone's comments--Russell

Reproduction or not I like the look of the sign and if it is 36" or larger and was closer to me I would buy it for $300
You cannot buy much these days for that price.

In my opinion. In many years of buying selling trading signs, I have never seen a metal or tin Walker & Co sign they all have been porcelain. Re-release of a desirable sign.

Oh man that is unbelievable.Just goes to show in ten years the old guys will be by the wayside and this new stuff will look so good that who knows. Why invest again when new people will be taken and sometimes pass this stuff off unknowingly.

That's just very unfortunate that this hobby is being destroyed by greed and dishonesty. Not safe anymore, to buy signs without due diligence. More and more, I only buy out of established collections and from people that I can build a rapport with and gauge their character.
