It's missing the hose and a pipe nozzle end that hangs in the holes in the lid.

I believe it was first designed and sold by Bennett. It was one of their most popular items, were sold for years.

Either they didn't patent the design or many other companies just copied the design, but I could probably name at least six other companies that made almost identical grease pumps.

There should be an ID tag on it.

The Bennett model no. was 25, and it was introduced in 1925.
