Picked up this pump over the weekend. I think it is a Tokheim 300. But whats up with the cabinet on the side? The guy I got it from swears it was a coin operated gas pump. It had a peice of what appears to be a coin mechanism laying lose in the side but no other proof than that. Ok pump gurus how about some thoughts.

There would have been a coin mechanism in the side box that could receive tokens to pay for the gas.

I'm not sure about rarity of them but a guy I know has about half a dozen of them I believe he paid about $200 apiece for them they are exactly like yours but have original paint and the same style of writing but its add glass in the door and some are decals as well.

Not exactly rare Tokiem did manufacture coin op pumps right up to the Explorer series , uh 1960's . Heck, I used to keep my Corvairs fed with Genuine East Coast Gasoline happy with them! East Coast gasoline , a brand BOTH Carolina traveler and I remember had them at all their "Quality " locations , ahem..........

Now I dunno bout an earlier Tokiem 300, they were made from 1954-1960 or so . I would imagine the same mechanism used in the Explorer pumps could work for the 300's too. The Explorers had a switch that allowed one to feed quarters and dollar bills, well , later ones did and had a buzzer to tell the customer the pump was on when it was dispensing gasoline .

Rare, uh doubt it . UN- Common , uh yes . Hey scrounge up a coin box and put it in yer den, people will wonder about ya !

see ya on the road folks !

Retro fitted by STARKEY in Colo. Damn coin box is heavier than the pump.
