If it's real it's a heck of a deal I believe! Body sure looks original at any rate.

I dont know if it is real or not. My Q is, did they use metal bodies in the 1950s? I know lenses can be put into non original bodies, just wondering...

That should be a 15" globe Wes, and not from the 50's...I think that globe dates to the late 20's/early 30's if my memory serves me correctly....I'm getting new flooring in my place and my books are buried!

And yes, I do believe they used/made metal bodies through the early 1960's actually as Mobil and Pure, the first to come to mind, still produced 15" lenses up through 1962 and 1961 respectively. I'm sure a few of the other big companies still produced lenses for metal bodies as well through the same period.

It looks real, and you better go with Kevin on this.

Randy I don't see anything wrong with it, angle of the photo.

Texaco never had any metal bodies past the early 30's, that I know of.

I think its real but sure strange? I just talked with him and its been sold, so someone probably got a smoking good deal if there are no unseen circumstances?
It should be worth around $2500.

Stuff can show up on craigslist. I bought this globe the other year. I recognized the picture of it form Scott Benjamin's sight.I figured it was a scam. I called and asked about it. The guy said it was a globe like the one pictured. He had taken the picture off the web. I told him I would be there in an hour. It was legit and priced as if it were a common Texaco globe. I bought it and told him not to use other peoples pictures.
