Here is a rare broken lens I bought. It was professionally repaired. The cracks can be seen at a close inspection but can not be seen just looking at it on a shelf or pump. The pictures are with and with out a light behind it.

Broken lenses don't really bother me. I have several on display at the office (including a mutual ethyl that has been 'Jarvisized' by John). 99% of the people who come in and admire aren't collectors and don't really even notice. I like to have mine out where non-collectors can enjoy. If I can get into a globe for a lot less than a perfect one, I jump at the chance. I even enjoy heavily damaged ones like below. They go into the shop for my own enjoyment. Even though they may be rough, I know how rare they are and get enjoyment out of that. I could never bring myself to throw them away. I'm more of a globe snob when it comes to reproduction capco bodies. I can't stand to have my lenses in new bodies and am always trying to find originals. I cringe when I see people's incredible original perfect lenses sitting in new repo plastic bodies.
This Coastal gets displayed with pride in my shop (on occasion I still stop by the guy's place to hunt for the missing piece) I will also eventual try to glue the Pan-Am's together for me to enjoy in the shop.
In summary, my viewpoint would be that mildly broken lenses have value and will increase over time. Heavily damaged ones will not have much value but will still be desirable for their history.
Looking for any Alabama based globes and advertising such as Coastal, Rebel, Interstate Oil, Foster Oil (supertane), Mutual, Oil Well, etc...

Thanks for everyone's opinion on this, it was greatly appreciated. This is what I like to see on oldgas just honest discussion with no drama. I have to admit I was really surprised just how broken lenses really have gained somewhat in value and how they are becoming widely accepted.

10(most lenses) of 14 of my globes are broken. Here they are. The rare ones are cities, white rose, lion, golden rule, leonard, sinlcair, and then the 2 very rare ones(only a couple known) Gano, and trackage. I would buy more globes in any condition, but mom said I can't buy anymore. No more room!! I will buy singles to complete my other singles. here are 4 of 6 pictures. Enjoy!! Thanks Noah

Can someone discuss the process of a "professionaly" repaired lense? From the pics of the ones that just glued it back together to the one that was professionaly done it is night and day difference!
