In looking a over a dozen signs in my possession I think the sign is suspect--reasons
first the gap between the s and k in sky is too wide & the same can be said of the gap between the C and H
(least it appears to be that way from the pic

the question re date is appropriate although if the
"petrox" is an add on (separate sign) then that would explain the date issue

yes probably porcelain

Doug, I was going to say 1955 -58 but then I observed my 10 x 15 Fire Chief sign with the Reg T.M. logo that was dated 1960.

got to be porcelain. white chips underneath the colors are the giveaway.

Look at advertologist's tin sign

-no chips but rust where paint is gone

I've got a similar sign, very thin but porcelain. I thought painted when I first got it because it was so flimsy.

The spacing between the letters has been questioned. Here are two 12" x 18" Sky Chief Marine signs with similar spacing. The one with red "Marine" is tin and dated 1974 the other is porcelain and dated 1960.

Here is my tin painted Texaco Marine sign. They were made by the Allen Morrison sign co. in Lynchburg Va. Mine is dated 12-63

Here are a few they made Allen Morrison made in 1971. I have seen the banjo pole ones from the forties as well in this size and smaller. I have seen the lamp oil sign in English as well.
