The two visi's are very different. The 40 looks a lot like the one for an 861 except the discharge is straight down instead of a slanted discharge. The 40A is a taller unit and looks totally different. On page 321 in Jack's book is a pretty good pic of the 40A/45 visi. Kent.

These Visi's are part of my TREE. I've got another sprout started. None are for sale. db Tok. 34, 870, 36 & 871 all use the same Visi.

I believe the visi in Dick's pic is for a 40A not a 40. Kent.

Wayne 40: I took this off a Wayne 40. Wayne 861: This came on my Wayne 861, they are the same. Both have the bolt hole in them also. Maybe not all the 861's had the bend in them. Brian

I would have to say, that if a pump co was at the end run of production of a certain type pump and they had older units left and needed them to finish their run they would use the older ones instead of casting more and throwing the old ones out. So you may have gotten a pump from the factory with an older style unit on it. The amount of units that were originally made for the newer pumps may have had some defects, breakage, etc. or just didn't arrive in time thus limiting the amount in the end. I couldn't see a company like Wayne closing a production line just to wait on more visi units.

I believe all the visi's pictured by Blange are correct for a 40. I believe the correct visi for the 861 is the one that Dick has pictured. It has no flange with a hole for mounting to the top. It just has a piece of pipe between the top and the visi.

The one I have on the 861 is original to that pump. The pump had three layers of paint on it white, red then green. Say what you want, but the visi and the top had the same amount of paint layers. Your going to have a very hard time telling me that ALL 861's had the same visi.

OK, I pulled these out of my Tree to photo side x side. Far right is missing glass, but has an 1 original rod holding it together. Next ??? Left has 1" IN/OUT, no holes in flange. Right has 1 1/4" IN/OUT w/ hole in flange. What pump does the left one go to ?

The 861 and the 40 came out the same year. So I would imagine the visi's were swapped all the time. The correct visi for the 861 is the second one from the right in Dick's pic. I don't claim to be an expert on visi's by any meens. But I do have an 861 and a 40, also a 40A top/visi that I have restored. My info comes straight out of the 861 gas pump manual. I think Ron Scobie could shed some light on this also. Kent.

I agree with you Kent, that is the one that should be on an 861, without a doubt. Just saying some got out of the factory with the 90 deg Visi. I had 3 861's and two of them had the 90 deg visi and one had the "correct" visi. Hell most people wouldn't even think twice about it. LOL
IMO both "look" correct, one might be just a little more correct than the other is all.

According to the parts breakdown for each pump, NONE of the visi base assemblies are the same. The 861 and the 40 had a similar visi top casting. Ron

He says he needs a 40A visi which looks like the one in dicks second post on the right. It has a hexogon looking top. Dick the 3rd one from the left looks like it could be off an 851 they were about the same casting just had a taller glass. In youre pic it looks taller than the one to the right of it. Brandon
