Why do some sellers lie in their description? Just describe what you are selling and quit making up stories.

First, is it a fact that he bought the sign from the other guy... the auction winner is hidden, so unless you sold it to him I'm not sure how you can assume he won it.

Second, if you didn't sell it to him, do you know the original seller didn't tell him that history?

Whether the guy is being truthful or not I cannot say since I'm not privy to his acquisition or knowledge of the piece. If indeed he is making up information the question becomes is it information which is going to effect the value at all or something that most people are going to discount because the piece is authentic anyway.

I'd be more concerned if he represented a repop as a real piece or weaved some elaborate story that it was owned by the President of Texaco in an attempt to garner more money.

I do agree that giving false history isn't good etiquette. However, some people want a story with what they buy because it makes the purchase more fun for them. I've heard some doosies in my time especially when buying old toys I have more knowledge of than the seller. I especially like the "my grandmother bought it" ones when it's very clear the item is less than 25 years old and the seller is in their 40s/50s.

Buyer has 820 feed backs, seller has 820 feed backs. It's obvious this seller bought it from that guy, common sense

It doesn't take a "rocket scientist" to see he bought it and is now selling it, they left feed back to each other for the item.

This is true, never said "he" was the one who found it. original seller could of told him the story.

"THIS IS AS GOOD AS THEY GET FOUND IN A BOX IN A ESTATE SALE OLD MAN WORKED FOR TEXACO 54 YEARS KEEP EVER THING."

Looks like he is just trying to flip it and make some money.

$350 - $35 (ebay fee) - $10 (paypal fee) - $293 (purchase price)
= $12

he's got a tough road ahead as a flipper then! smile

Has to be the same exact piece. Look at the tiny flake between the E and the X on one side. Same size, same place, same everything.

Why lie about something like that?
