Was watching the show last night. Rick restored a huge Mobil Pegasus for a guy named Robert. During the show they showed a picture of Roberts collection of signs on the tall poles. Kind of looked familiar. Is Robert a member on here? Possibly KATFSH.

The Pegasus did look cool lit up but I noticed when they stripped it it was galvanized not porcelain. I have seen two large rotators and neither was galvanized both were porcelain. The smaller one I have is porcelain so was this one a homemade sign or did mobil make one like this?

If that was a home made sign, someone did one hell of a job making in and soldering it together... I would guess it was a real Mobil sign manufactured for them.

Turned out sweet!!

Thanks
Mike

The sign wouldn't be as hard to make as you think. I am in hvac and have a sheet metal shop. It would take a bit to make the first one figuring out the pattern and where the holes go painting wouldn't be that big a deal as I know a restorer who could do that then neon it. After that I could turn them out pretty quick. Compared to a real one it could be done a whole lot cheaper. Anyway I just wondered if anybody else had ever seen one like this.

The first place they went to in the show to find a pole looks like the place that is that is used for some art work that Hobby Lobby sells in picture section that are all clear coated and framed.

Any way you look at it the sign looked great with the pole and restoration. That is one of the best jobs that I have seen on there.
Wish I had one.

WOW!! That sign looked amazing when it was finished!! The neon was incredible!! Great job Rick if by some chance you ever visit these pages!!
But having said that, to make it proper, there should have been a small plaque riveted to it documenting and dating the portions that are original and the portions that are reproduction. To make it even better, a dated picture of the before should have been entombed inside it along with the story.
Still, I absolutely love it!! I would love to sit out on that guys patio with a glass of Crown and cigar and watch it spin against the starry sky!!!
