Do any of you guys know if its possible to apply old water release decals? I recently got some Sinclair Ethyl Originals and would like to apply but dont want to ruin them or my paint job. Any suggestions?

Should not be a problem. I recently did one from the 50's and it worked well. All depends on how thick the transfer material is as to whether it will tear or not so just be real careful not to slide it until it is fully released and then do it gently. Use a soft sponge to work it out on the surface. Definitely should not mess up your paint job, just keep it wet until you have it in place.

That' my 2 cents!

Make sure you clear-cote the decals before applying. They may crack if not coated.

A question for Whiteflash. I have some NOS decals. In the instruction it says to "Wipe down the decal with clean water, after installation to prevent cracking". So is it still a good idea to clearcoat the decals, only because of their age?

I THINK WARM WATER WORKS BETTER THAN COLD ON WATER APPLICATION DECALS.

I clear-coat any water decals before applying. New or Old. I have had decals crack as soon as they are submersed in water when not coated. Luke warm water works best for me.

Whiteflash....What kind of clear-coat do you use ? Lacquer, polyurethane ? Is any particular brand better than another ? Always willing to learn. Thanks.

I use a small spray can made by Testors. You should be able to find it at any hobby store. It is called Gloss Cote which is a clear lacquer. A small can goes a long way. A single, even coat on the decal is all you need. Let it dry a day before handling to prevent finger prints in the lacquer.
