Dad worked for Skelly in the 1930s, I found a receipt in moms things, one item noted is Aromax, 5 aromax cost, 94 cents 7 days later, she buys 7 aromax, cost 1.31, 8 days later, she buys 10 aromax, 1.87, and 7 days after that, she marries Dad. Are these cigarettes??????? or what. The receipt was in a wonderful old metal matchbook enclosure. PLEASE help me answer the riddle of aromax. thank you all.

Aromax was the regular grade of gasoline sold by Skelly from the late 1920's until 1940. The 5, 7, and 10 Aromax probably refer to the number of gallons she purchased. Bob

I have a Skelly Aromax wide bodied glass globe from the late 30's and it has the "Ethyl" triangle logo on it, so maybe Aromax was one of their premium blends.....

Midway, Aromax Ethyl was the premium fuel in the same years as Aromax was the regular grade. Bob

Thanks for the clarification Lastgas. Skelly was pretty dominant in my part of Illinois, and I see a lot of different Skelly globes. It gets a little confusing. They had Skelly Fortified Premium, Skelly Premium, and now I learned that Aromax Ethyl was another variant of premium grade. Luckily I have all three globes!! The first two globes do not have the 'Ethyl' trademark, so I'm guessing the patent rights had expired by then?? Although a Wayne clockface pump I got out of a bulk plant years ago has the Ethyl logo on a porcelain pump plate, and only had a 'Fortified Premium" decal and wide bodied glass globe ....
