I inherited a Hayes visible pump from my Dad. He had sandblasted and primed the pump but it sat like that for many years until I finished restoring it. He owned a Texaco station in the 50's, so he bought a vintage Texaco globe for the top. I put a replacement globe on it instead because I didn't want to risk getting the original globe broken outside. This pump has a stand-pipe in the jar. The height of the stand-pipe could be moved with the lever on the side to dispense the number of gallons desired. I was told this was a good idea in theory, but in practice the packing around the stand-pipe tended to leak gasoline which wasn't good. Someone on this site told me the hole in the door was used to lock up the hose at night. My Dad lived in Kansas and the Hayes pumps were made in Wichita so he probably got the pump in that area. The top "bonnet", the brass rods, the nozzle/hose, and the Texaco signs are not original. The "contains LEAD" signs are original. I was told it was probably originally all red but I chose to paint it red and green to complement the Texaco signs and globe.

That is one beautiful pump!!
I am trying to replicate a National Refining Co. Hayes Visible pump my Grandpa used and the photos of yours really helps.
I'm sending you a PM to ask a couple of questions.
Again.....outstanding pump. Nice inheritance.
Mike
