I picked up a rocker can more than a year ago and hung onto it because I figured itd be an interesting project. It had no advertising left on it, and had looked to be rattle-can sprayed black... but it was one of the most dent free rocker cans I have seen.
A relative of mine works for a small manufacturing facility that does a lot of tractor parts, so I asked if I could give it to him to get powder-coated. He said yeah and it will be free, but it will have to be one of the colors that they normally run. So I elected for John Deere green in hopes that it would resemble Cities Service. So they acid bathed it and ran it thru the powder-coating process.
I finally got around to ordering some decals in the correct size and put them on last night. It turned out quite well I think, the text color and the powder coating matched up quite well and the decal size ended up being perfect. My only complaint would be that the decal manufacturer really screwed up the R & V in 'Service', but I guess you get what you pay for.
Total cost of Project: $60 ($40 for rocker can, $20 for decals)
(I will add... this obviously wouldnt be the look of an original Cities rocker can, an original would just be white with black lettering)
If anyone else has re-done an old rocker can that had long lost its advertising, please share...
