Hello all, my dad and I are working on re-assembling an erie 77. We are assembling the doors and the sight glass sticks out so far that it hits the door glass and it wont shut. Please help! When we bought the pump it had no door glass so we are not sure what is wrong. Thanks for any help.

Post a picture of sight glass assembly w/ & w/o the faces installed.
Sounds like someone replaced the sight glasses w/ wrong ones.

I've built a couple of 748's which are basically the same pump. The sight glasses almost touch the windows on them, even with the correct ones installed Dick may be right, yours could have the wrong sight glasses but I'm not sure if any others would fit the manifold or not. If you just tried one door and it hits, try the other side. The sight glass manifold may just be mounted slightly off center in the frame and need to be slid over to center it. Also make sure the glass was installed right in the door frame bezel and its not setting too far inward somehow.......GB

My guess would be that the door hinges are bent, pretty common on that pump.

Are you using a window frame or are you trying to clamp the glass to the back of the door? I had this same problem on my 77. I thought the glass clamped into the back of the door, but later I found out the pump uses a window frame that is a separate assembly that bolts into the door.

on some of the Eries they had small plastic clear covers that went over the numbers and no door glass. To add glass you will have to come up with the window frames which move the glass further out from the meter and sight glasses as discussed earlier.Good luck on the resto.

When my sight glass hit the window, I took the sight glass out and replaced it with a flat piece of plexiglass. I flattened out the spinner, and shortened the spinner axle. This created plenty of room for the window glass. It didn't look bad at all. If you didn't know it wasn't supposed to be that way you would never guess. This was a desperation move as the pump was shipping out the next morning, and I had never had it together with the window in it.
