You can also spend a fortune on matting and framing. And that's money down the drain, investment-wise. It sure does make neat things look even neater, though.

Socony-Vacuum and Mobil had so many ads out over the years that I don't specifically collect them, but this General Petroleum ad from 1935 has always been my favorite. S-V rarely printed more than 2 color ads in this time period, so this full color one has always really stood out from the crowd, just like all the advertising General did pre-1940. Darin

this thread has turned out awesome... keep em coming!
and for framing & matting putting money down the drain... just have to make sure and be frugal with it. My wife took that piece I had to hobby lobby and got the frame and it matted for $33. To me, it easily turned a piece of paper into a piece worthy of over $30,

Jason, hope you buy that station...should be a crime for that building to be vacant.
Bob, those displays look great.

You can also spend a fortune on matting and framing. And that's money down the drain, investment-wise. It sure does make neat things look even neater, though. You can buy a good used matte cutter on ebay and the supplies you need at your local craft store to do this at a fraction of the price. Also frames can be bought at second hand stores and else where. Its much more satisfying to do it yourself. Its easy too. Careful though- empty frames multiply like mice-At one time, my wife had like a hundred spare frames- just in case.

Work space, storage space, excess "inventory" as mentioned, too much finished product to properly display, friends and relatives wanting you to frame just this one little picture, and so on and so forth. No thanks, I need all my space for real "junk."

I have always liked looking threw old magazines. I pull out the ad's that I like and store them in archival folders. I will post a bunch of them over the next few days.

As far as framing. I was at an auction last night , good local junk sale. Framed art work and posters were going under ten bucks. If you went to a store the frame and glass would cost fifty bucks. Buy up the old and recycle, it saves a lot of money. Yard sales are a good source as well.
