Is that the only pump you wanted to restore?
If not, how about trading it to someone that wants it and getting a pump that will fit in your home without cutting it up?
Just trying to find a way!

It's yours and you can do whatever you want with it. You are the only one it has to please. I restored a Milwaukee clockface and put it in my screen porch but had to redo my ceiling to get it to fit, between the rafters. It was easier to do this than cut the pump down.If you are going to keep it in a certain place and don't have a lot of other options do want ever you want with it. It's only a gas pump. You'll never sell for enough to balance the national budget.

I would, respectfully, encourage you to not cut it. Yes, it is yours. But, you have been given some good options. Sell it, etc. I hate to see any antique 'modified.' Cars are one thing as people chopped them to make hotrods. I don't forsee a large market for a "HotRod" gaspump. But, who knows, it may the wave of the future. I know a large number of people who criticize the reproduction pumps, so I don't thing a cut pump is a good idea. Good luck with your choice.

Cut out and box the sheetrock ceiling...if you move it will be easier to fix the sheetrock than regretting cutting the pump.

What he is doing is NO WORSE than removing the computer & installing a dummy clockface because you can't find one or step up when you do. When it's time too sell it, WILL you return it to a computer pump. I DOUBT IT.
OR, cutting the original door to make a showcase in the lower part.

Dick, I see yoru point. However, I think this is a little different. I disagree with puttingin a clock face if it never had one. but, if it had one and you cant get or afford an original, then a reproduction is OK. Cutting the door to make a display case, to me, falls in a gray area. Yes, one is changing the pump's original look, but you are doing it to create a display case which makes it functional. Somehow, cutting down the size of it (again, only my opinion) crosses the line of modifying something for function. But, dicespumpandpaint also has a good pont, it is not rare, so this may be less of an issue.

Would you cut a roman pump??? Don't think so. Anyway.....always a fun place to discuss ideas.

At one time I had 3 pumps in my house 2 were Bennett 150's and they fit my 8' ceilings. It was snug but they fit.I used the plastic globe bodied globe. You may be able to squeezeee the new metal 13.5 body into it also.

This was Jeff Houston's [aquaelvis] 150 [he sold it]. It had 1 SSE & 1 RHEEM face.

Forgot to ask how tall it was, but approx. 5'.

I mean no disrespect but have to call Dick on his last post.

There is a big difference in cutting a pump all around in 2 places and changing the mech inside the window face. Unless you want to slather on the bondo it is a bit of work, much more than cutting a bump into the ceiling...(easier to reverse as well) Maybe I am wrong and you would just be trimming the upper and or lower edge??

At any rate it is his pump but I would only do it as a last resort.
How about a Gargoyle or other oval globe, are they not lower??

I'm a purest so I say don't cut it....BUT.... I have a 5' tall Wayne 70. The ID tag is from a pump rebuilder that cut it down to make it appear more modern. Its unlikely that a Bennett 132 would have ever been modified like that but you never know.

What brand are you going to restore it in? Gulf used 12 1/2" globes as far back as the mid 1930's. Using a 12 1/2" globe just might get you the clearance you need.

Wanted: Gas pump globes:Sinclair & affiliates, IL companies. Ripple bodies. Anything Sinclair, Stoll, Pierce, 4 Bros.

T-Way is right on with this, you can shave a lot just in the globe body give it a look and take a measurement , You don't want to saw off part of your punp but if you can lower the globe body thats the way to go. I'm not an expert but I know T-Way has done it with great resultsand it looks great

I have to go with those that say "it's your pump do as you want" I would only cut the bottom section because it would be easy to raise it back up at a later date and if done correctly it would never hurt the value of the pump. I have run across alot of pumps that were cut down back in the good `ol days. I once had a Wayne 60 that was cut down 2 feet, the work was done many, many years ago. It was really a neat looking pump. I have a Tokheim 850 in the lower level of my house that I cut several inches off the bottom to get it to fit. You can't really tell. I have several original 850's and they line up at different heights.
I again say do what makes you happy, to each his own.
Tom.
