just bought a texaco skychief gas globe for about 70.00. On ebay there are 2 lens look the same as mine except they say they are old . How do I tell the difference. thanks

The repo lenses should be dated on the bottom. Hope this answers your question Richard

ALSO, SOMETIMES THE WORD "REPRODUCTION" APPEARS ALONG THE BOTTOM BORDER.

thanks guys you are correct the new one has printing on the bottom. also the new ones have notch on the edge

It sounds like you have lenses for a Gill Body. The original lenses do have slots on the sides for a Capco body and deeper slots for a glass body. I have also seen some Texaco lenses for a balcrank body with slots at the 12,4, and 8 o'clock positions. I have Texaco lenses with a C on the bottom indicating they are for a Capco body, but I don't remember if the sky chief are that way. Hope this helps Richard

...I had a Hull-type body Texaco globe at one time, that had the 'C' at the bottom...I want to say that the body had an embossed 'C' on it as well...it was all-original, lenses caulked-in, lenses had deep notches...so I'm thinking the 'C' doesn't necessarily mean the lenses were for a plastic body...maybe Cincinnati Advertising Products sold Hull-type bodies as well?...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

The C did stand for CAPCO (Cincinnati Advertising Products Co). This company made glass and plastic bodies. You normally think of the plastic bodies when you say a CAPCO body but it could be glass. Most of the Texaco lenses I have seen with the C were for glass bodies.You have to look at the notches (half circle for plastic or elongated for glass) to determine which type body the lens went on. If it has no notches it went on a Gill or Banded body. Texaco used Gill bodies but I don't believe they used banded bodies. Just a note this company (CAPCO) also made metal bodies.
