I bought a Royal Crown soda machine from a woman in 2007. The machine came out of her in laws gas station. At the time she also had a clock from the same station, she wouldn't part with it. The remnants of the store were still there then, including a cement pit for working underneath cars. Since then she has had the store leveled. Lately I'd been thinking of stopping at her house to see if she had any pictures of the gas station. So yesterday I was driving home from the post office and I see her outside of her house. I stopped in and asked her about any pictures. She said she had pictures but donated them to the town historical society. As an afterthought I asked her about the clock. She proceeded to fetch the clock from her cellar and we looked it over. We were able to make a deal and I came home with it. I'm going to get the Neon fixed and get the clock working. No restoration because I like the patina. I went to the historical society/library today and copied the pictures of the station along with a newspaper write up. The clock is pretty unusual. I think it's 1930's vintage and pre-dates the station. I'm happy with it. I took a picture today from a similar vantage point as the far away black and white picture. Looks like they sold Calso.

Yeah the clock isn't too sexy compared to a Cleveland type but I like it. My uneducated guess would be that it was basic white neon, but who knows. So today I also found another gas station picture in the same album as the other ones. I asked a woman at the library if she recognized the house in the picture. She says "yes, it's the house right next door". So I go outside and sure enough it was. I took a then and now shot of that. Took me a while to crop the picture I took to match up with the old one. Enjoy.

Right next to Wendell is another very small town called Shutesbury. I went to the library there today and found a picture of Dihlman's store. The building is the current post office in town. In rural New England back then Socony was apparently the King.

Nothing in my rumpus room has as much "Pop" as that clock. I have nothing but good things to say about NeonWorks in Springfield Mass. They said it would be done in a week, and it was done in a week.
On a different note, I found another picture of Dihlmann's store in Shutesbury from 1968. I find it interesting that they added a N to their name on the sign. Maybe in the 20's they were trying to save money so they dropped the N to save paint?
