OK, Bob & Big_AL ... could you please shed some light on this topic?

eBay : 181340331115

1- Which "Vedol" is more desired: with the "V" or with "A"?

2- Also, is the LOGO "etched" or is it a water-transfer decal?

Thanks,

Hen

HEY Hen.I would say the flying V,FOR SURE...THE DECAL IS WATER -TRANSFER.....LOOKS ORIGINAL ESPECIALLY THE SAE part...usually the decals have signs of wear from being that old and being put in the holder and out..bottle looks original...its hard to tell from the auction picture whether the decal is real or a new one made??,sure would like to hold it for closer inspection..sure would like to have the tydol bottle, that`s the one you want..$75.00 has been a normal EBAY price for a single bottle lately....

the bottles are very popular,I`m just not sure about this one, looks old but with all the repo stuff out there, buyer beware!!!

Thanks a lot, Al!

Great information indeed!

We "new" collectors are so lucky to have "veteran members" of your type on OG to help us out from time-to-time! I find this hobby to be far more complex than that of the "steel-toys". It took me 10 years to learn about steel-toys (different makes from 1920-1938). I am still learning something new everyday.

Also, I, find good stuff on eBay from time-to-time but in this case (as you mentioned), I will wait until I see one in person.

I believe, "Patience" is key to collecting good stuff!

Regards,

Hen

Hen, I am just seeing your question.... AL, did an outstanding job in answering it...

According to the logo on the bottle, it would be from the 1940s...

Lately, I have been seeing a number of Veedol bottles on Ebay with the SAE 20 on the bottle... And I've wondered why? SAE 20 was the standard grade of oil for Veedol...

It doesn't make any sense (to me) that the Oil that was used on a daily basis would need to be marked.... Heavier grades of oil, yes their bottles would be marked.. So one did not mix the bottles. But, there would be no reason to mark the bottles that were used in most applications, at the time... Or atleast that is one of the reasons I have stayed away from the bottles, marked with the SAE 20 on them... But I have not held one of these bottles, so I might be mistaken...

My original bottle, has the logo. But has no SAE grade on it... And none of my cans have an SAE grade on the "body of the can"... On a few they have SAE 20 on the lids, but not on the can itself...

I am still missing 1 Imperial Qt. But, I now have this particular Veedol "series" in US, Canadian, German and French versions....

Not sure, that I have been a help?

Bob,

You bet you did help me here! Always eager to learn from you!

Thanks a lot for the photo + info about the "SAE 20". What a great display of Veedol memorobilia!

Hen, the bottle in your initial question ended at $76...

As AL, said. That is the general price they have been ending at...

Thanks for the heads up,Bob!

Wow! with shipping it is almost at $90.

So, what is a fair price for the 8 being offered:

For the condition of the bottles and the carrier... I believe that $499 is a fair asking price... But, I am notoriously cheap!.. (that is mainly the reason why I only have the 1 Veedol bottle).... That being the case, if I was bidding on the bottles and someone else threw out a bid that was even $50 higher, I would back away....

The Shipping cost of $40 is honestly much less than I would expect... These bottles are heavy and bulky, especially 8 bottles with spouts and the wire carrier....

As I noted, if I had the extra money and I could do a BIN for $499? I would snap them up....
