There's one on eBay right now going crazy high for a fantasy can. Seller seems to think it's old original like the gallon.

Yes that's the one. I contacted the seller told him it was fake he said screw you and I reported it several times if all could do the same that would be superb.

Just curious, what is it about the can that is telling you it is a repro? It just looks like an old oil can bank to me. Did they reproduce banks?

Because they never made a Quart can like this. These Graphics are from a early 1 gallon can.

This logo/design is from the 1920s... Long before the first sealed round metal 1qt can was produced (the years 1932 to 1934, seemed to be the time period that most of the "new" rounds started production; depending on the Oil Company...)

As Jason said, design was used on 1gal rectangular oil cans... (I might be wrong on this?... I also thought the 5gal rectangular and 1/2 gal rectangular cans also had this specific logo)

But, my specific knowledge of early Sinclair is greatly lacking, so I would not be surprised to find out I am mistaken on the 5 gal and 1/2 gal cans....

Plainly a dirtied fake. Look at the picture of the end-cap with the slot for the bank. The end cap is of modern stamping technique, note the drain ridges and compare to early cans. The average oil can bank from that era would have been small and in fact many were used as spent razor containers so the hole was not typically big enough for large coins. Also imagine someone from the 1920's saving coins in a quart bank! Pennies bought an awful lot back then so if you saved 100 (think 2 rolls) that was a lot! The average quart would hold 1200 pennies, not something a 1920s/30's person would be willing to fill!

Sinclair had the flat one gallon "Race Car" can and they also hade the same logo on the rectangle shaped 5 gallon can. There may have also been a 1/2 gallon can with the same logo on it but I never saw one or a picture of one.

The sad part about this is that this seller lives about 3 miles from me and doesn't take to the advise I gave him.

At the bottom of the eBay listing there's the "ask a question" link, if I'm not mistaken if you post a question there it is visible to anyone who looks at the page. Why not put something there to the effect of item being fake so person who gets ripped off might see it and have possible recourse for a refund, he could prove seller knew or was at least warned about item and did not disclose it. Just a thought ?

After you ask seller a question it is up to the seller IF they want that info posted.
MOST WON'T for fear of running off potential bidder/buyer OR having TRUTH BE KNOWN.

Grrrrr. It bothers me ( probably to much ) that this seller ripped off the buyer.

Thanks.

Buyer has 1,000+ feedback, I blame him [or his smart phone for small picture]. On my 28" monitor I can see it was a paper/vinyl label on a CB can.
