i can believe it... Kevin had 2 cities service bennetts that were the same model at his North Dakota auction. I left very strong bids as I wanted them to leave as original for display. They wound up bringing $1100 each or something!

Being new to the hobby, I'm finding it hard to find even the common pumps in unrestored condition for less than $1000.

Well I guess you have to know where to look. I work the whole east coast and wouldn't pay more then $400-500 max with the sun shinning for that pump. $1000 is the I never turn off the highway and need a handy cap plate just because I'm lazy price.

Older commercial building where they had/have lots of company vehicles [trucks/cabs/delivery], farms etc. Check w/ station service companies, Bulk delivery, meter readers that have to go in backyards, cable/telephone service guys. Place Wanted ads in Pet/Feed/Grocery/liquor stores. Offer incentives to Scrap Dealers/workers. Leave cards at garage/tag sales. Place ads in Penny Savers/newspapers/Craig's List. Bumper Stickers/Magnets w/ a readable phone #.

There was a guy near Denver that use to Complain There aren't any pumps around me! Now he has them Stacked in his garage & backyard, brother's, daughter's, Mother's Houses! They won't find you if no one knows your looking/wanting/Craving. I'd bet within 50 miles of you there are 100 pumps.

No need to buy common pumps on ebay when they are still available in the wild. Here's a Bennett I picked up a couple of months ago for WAY LESS than the one on ebay. Got the lead from a fuel delivery guy just like Dick said. Now I just have to decide what to restore it too.... I'm really torn between Texaco and Mobil.

Jeff, I'm not too far from you. I just picked up a 700 series Bennett just south of you for $100. Keith Johnson (Manassas Fats) has been buying out of Manassas for years. I agree, the "low hanging fruit" is gone, but I've been pretty lucky driving down the driveway of farms & orchards and talking the owners out of theirs or getting leads on farms that have them.
I also agree with Maxgas, I wouldn't touch that Bennett. It looks great the way it is. Brady

I'm going to start with many of the ideas that Dick mentioned and also scout out of some of the outlying areas that are a bit more rural.

One other place to post want ads is in small town post offices....... a lot of farmers get their mail in town believe it or not. Like Dick said CL is another really good place to look, but you have to look often.... once a day probably is not enough. I've gotten a number of pumps that that way and a few years ago thanks to an ad in the Spokane CL I was able to get a Gilbarco 996 with 2 really nice Husky porcelain pump plates for $500. Seriously though...... step away from the computer every now and then and hit the back roads and beat the bushes. Here's the "patina" on the back side of the Bennett..... I was just kidding about restoring it...... especially to Texaco or Mobil.

JeffS...... When you check CL you also need to check "gas pumps", "gas station", "service station" and make sure they are in quotation marks.
