I decided to start a post on this Bowser 97 restoration so that anyone who cares can follow the progress. There is a lot of fabrication that will have to happen to get this one done but I enjoy that. Some I will do myself and some I will have done by others. I’m excited about this pump so this should be fun. I even have a field trip planned in a couple of weeks to look at a complete 97 so I can get some reference pictures and measurements.

This is what we are starting with. A good starting point but a lot is missing or broken and there are numerous extra holes thanks to this guy having been in a good location for target practice.

I started disassembling this pump about two weeks ago and the first thing that I saw that needed attention are the housings and trim rings for the clock face. They were shot up and broken but there was enough there that I could use them as a reference to make some new ones. So yesterday I spent the day machining up some new ones. I left the back solid since I don’t know exactly how that should look yet. Also since the guts are destroyed and the pump is seized there was really no reason to make it anything other than cosmetic for now.

Next week I hope to make the new glass retaining rings and nozzle fork. Stay tuned!

Nice machine job there Chris. That would have taken me weeks on my old lathe and milling machine. Mitch

Thanks Mitch. Computerized machining has made things a lot easier. We are not nearly the skilled tradesmen like guys where when you turned handles.

I got a couple more parts made this weekend. I made the two glass retaining rings and a nozzle fork. Not much more will happen until I get some pictures and dimensions of some of the parts I’m missing. Hemibird has a nice complete pump that I hope to go see in the next week or two.

Thanks Kevin. I am having so much fun doing this pump! It's cool to be designing and machining stuff for myself. And I'll keep posting. I'm using this post as motivation to keep things moving along and as one that I hope people will enjoy looking at.

Looks like a great project that will take a lot of custom work to complete. But if you have the talent and the equipment or access it should really be enjoyable.lLooks like it going to be a special one when you are thru with it.Hope to see a pic when it is completed.
