Gerald Becker writes: "We ran across this Mobil can (full & unopened) and thought it was great. We believe it is some type of machine oil but are unable to find out anything else. Are you able to give us any information, such as possible age? We noted there no similar type cans in the photos on your site." Is it quite small??
It is likely Bicycle oil or if the tin is larger perhaps motorcycle.
Bicycle race tracks were called velodromes and bikeracing at times called velosports.
Now you must remember Switzerland has 4 languages (officially) so that oil could have had several names just in that country.
I would be interested in it if it is bike oil...dodogas

I have a can of "velocite oil" from Mobil and it is oil for "milking machines" or what ever they might be called. Since this is No 6 grade, there might of course be different uses for different grades of Velocite oil. rgds Claes

In response to dodogas, the can is 1 quart size. The label does not show up well on the picture, but reads "Mobil Oil (Switzerland) Basel". It was found in an old machine shop.

Nice can Gerald,Mobil Velocite is available in three number grades 3,6,10 all are light-bodied,light-colored oils made especially to meet the needs of high-speed machine-tool spindles.Other Letter grades are made for high-speed textile spindles. Rockwell International ia a big consumer of the product. The can appears older that the Logo on the lable if its a quart size or smaller best guess value $20-$40 as appears.E-mail if you have any questions.
