Trying to take off the cylinder and the whole top is coming off including the ring around the cylinder. Should the ring somehow be left there and the top just come off. Cylinder too valuable to screw up. The cylinder ring on top seems to be rusted together with the cast iron top, or is there something else that needs to come undone. Took the conduit apart.

Yes Craig the rings are attached to the cylinder. The top should come loose with patience, penetrating oil, lots of beer and hammer and chisels. Just work it slowly, it will free.

Thanks, Phil

As Phil says. IF ring is already loose from glass, go ahead & remove w/ top.
Carb cleaner works for removing the litharge-glycerin, takes time BUT Worth it.

ok, just did not want to chance breaking the cylinder. The Litharge is kind of coming out on it own, and I just did not want to hit it up and chip it.
Thanks

Craig
