wow it's more than patina, it's called barbecued,
by the way art deco is around 1930, your sign is from late 1950's

Here's some interesting reading that you may want to review:
RULES

You will want to pay particular attention to the 3rd post which says

"Posts that criticize the condition or price of the item will be deleted."

We can all see the condition, your post is unnecessary.

Some like them new & some like them used ! Some like them Minty and some like them crusty . I can appreciate all of them . Not all can afford to buy 9-10 rated signs and cans. Some buy within their budget and some buy like there is no tomorrow.
Be tolerant & enjoy the variety that is presented on this site.
There is room in the collecting hobby for all of the above. No one person or persons sets the rules of choice for others.
There are no petro God's . Well , maybe the Moderators somewhat . smile One should be careful when critisizing others as they open therirselves up for the same.
Some like them tall, some like them short , some like them plump and some like them lean ( fooled you , thought you knew where I was going ) grin Kind of like pumps ha ha.As the cliche goes variety is the spice of life.

All that maybe true and I agree BTW but that is not an Art Deco piece. That term is used way too loosely and to enhance the product being discussed. I think Nucky or anyone else for that matter should be able to challenge what they perceive to be an error in description. It's the way you do it that either helps or hurts.

Art Deco or Deco, is an influential visual arts design style which first appeared in France after World War I, flourishing internationally in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s before its popularity waned after World War II. It is an eclectic style that combines traditional craft motifs with Machine Age imagery and materials. The style is often characterized by rich colors, bold geometric shapes, and lavish ornamentation
