Wondering if anyone has seen this guy before or if someone knows what company used this character?

...there was a discussion about a sign exactly like this a while back on Oldgas...some had speculated Cities Service, because of the red/white stripes...

Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

I had one of those and tried, unsuccessfully, for a couple of years to find out what it was. I'm so glad to see another.

I Have one also, its reflective material on mine. I thought it was a generic sign like gas ahead or something.

It is a panel off of a stock billboard that was placed outside towns where Cities Service stations were located, either advertising a specific station or jobber. It was not exactly a "Cities Service Ahead" sign, but rather a billboard that could advertise one or more stations in the area. It dates from 1952-57 or so.

Post a pic if you have one. Let's see your patina.

BryceG said "pump paint design," but wasn't that a large decal they used on the gas pumps?
