Came across this gem today. I'm wondering is it part of a Coca Cola Weathervane or part of a sign topper? Anyone ever seen one?

Aluminum or cast iron ? Looks like an old lightening rod arrow that someone inserted a coke piece in the tail. Should have either glass or metal in the "fin"...not coke. Dave

It is cast iron. I have seen versions with glass in them, but as it rotates on the center I don't think it would be a lightening rod piece. The sign is attached via hammered brads/rivets, so I would say original to the piece.

It definitely is a lightening rod piece which sat beneath a glass ball and a bronze point. I will send you a photo of one tomorrow. I have several in the back yard that I have taken off of old houses. I do not believe that Coke had anything to do with lightening rods. Why would they and you would not even be able to read "coke" on top of a house.

Dave is right it is a lightening rod off of an old barn or farm house. My wife has several in her gardens and has had many over the years . All of hers have the metal plate on the rear with out any script on them. Hers rotate also. Some have the glass balls and some are missing.

Those things used to be everywhere in the south, but I have not seen many lately. When a roof is replaced...they are trashed so most that have survived are on metal roofs. They were all over North Carolina farm houses back in the 80's when I picked the area around the coast.Dave

This arrow is on Ebay, right now... And to my old eyes... it looks identical to Paul's, except for the condition...

I have about 75 different arrows, shinn bennet animals ect. That coke arrow is something someone made up. The arrow is legit.

A cast iron arrow without anything in the tail..25-50 bucks. Add $ for the glass ball, bronze point, fitting, etc. Dave

Thanks for the input. It looks like the metal is original to the piece, but the painting is a later addition on close inspection. Damn my aging eyes. Still considering I got it in a package deal with other real items I'm not hurt either way. I think I'll find a rod it can sit on and maybe one of those metal Coke bottles to balance on top and make a piece of yard art!

Take that coke thing out of the tail and replace it with something neat.Perhaps a cutout or a piece of stained glass. The arrows are cool pieces. Dave

Since the metal is original to the piece it's not gonna happen and I'm not about to grind down those rivets.

I wouldn't either, but since you believe that metal piece is original, then the coke "thing" is either a decal, sticker, etc. Strip it off with paint stripper. If that coke "thing" is under that bracket where it is riveted...that metal piece has either been removed and reattached or just fabricated. That rivet it just a small "peened" rivet...almost like a nail head. Dave
