Have a chance to buy this one but looks too good to be true. Did a little research and supposedly this particular sign was re-popped at one time so not sure if it's the real deal or not. Sign is approximately 4'X6' painted metal surrounded by a wood frame. Sign is not embossed.
Not sure what to be looking for to determine its DNA.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Any makers marks or name? That size with a wood frame I would say real but I am not familiar with this sign. Do you have a picture of the backside?

Ask your self how a sign this size could survive in this condition w/o scratches/dents/weathering/surface rust?

I'd pass on it, they did re-make that sign with the wood frame back and all.

I've seen this same style sign a few times over the last ten years or so and they always seem to be in similar condition.

Went back and looked at this sign a bit closer today.
Interesting observation - there are what looks to be 3 nail gun entry marks on each side of the wood frame which appears to be the method used to bind the wood frame to the metal sign. Don't believe they would have had the luxury of power nail guns back when this sign as an original would have been produced.
Based upon some previous comments on this post and a few PM's there appears to be little doubt this is a repop.
Thanks once again for the education.

I've been looking at my research info... And I don't find any original Oilzum signs, especially those from the 1920s... That has/had such a background color...
Looking for Tide Water/ Tide Water-Associated/ Tidewater items
