Had a great week. Picked up a very clean Firestone curb sign...(need a base if anyone has one)

Next is a seldomly seen AC spark plug clock. It was dirty when I got it but after taking it all apart..she cleaned up nice.

Last but not least...is proof that this stuff still exists in the wild. After randomly speaking with a gentlmen at a flea market about a month ago...we talked about my collection for a while. He told me he had a sign in his basement that he got from his grandparent's house when they sold it 20 years ago. He remembered it sitting there as long as he could remember when he was younger. As with most stories I dismissed it until I got a call this week. When I walked in I couldnt believe it. This GMC sign is almost perfect! I doubt it was ever used. Crazy but here's proof to never give up.

Dragged this out of a barn Saturday. It was filthy from sitting uncovered since 1981 the owner said.
One of the nicest pumps I have found in a long time.

I picked up a few items. I got this rack, the Mobil can, and the Penn can all from the same collection. Finally, I also picked up the Shell cans from a show last Sunday but did not get to post.

Hello All,
Besides my Mobiloil Marine can the other highlight of my week is this Hi-Speed globe. It's the first "speed line" Hi-Speed in my collection. Maybe I'll find the Ethyl to go with it someday, but you don't see Hi-Speed globes very often.

Bought these a while ago, but were delivered this week. A little target practiced, but.... And, thanks, Eric, for making my little Firestone feel like the ugly duckling. smile Seriously, what did you think the chances of seeing two of these this week were?

I bought a Firestone base last year, knowing I'd never find a sign in MS so I re-purposed it. Lo and behold, a few months later I bought the sign out of New Mexico.

I normally don't get much gas and oil. Here are my two signs. I went to a farm with a friend to look over a piece of farm equipment, and these were in the loft of the barn.

The Co-op sign is from a town that was dissolved years ago. It's a bit scratched up, but I still love it!

Great Buys!

I got a couple things.
Dad gave me this sign for Christmas in 2012. It looked good hanging in his garage so I just left it hang. After he passed I decided it was time to bring it home. My brothers helped get it down from the wall and we cleaned it off with a scrub brush and water. It still has a little staining on it that will come off. This sign came from the Marathon Station in Millersburg Ohio. They were one of dads competitors back when. Dad also got a porcelain Tokheim pump from the same station I also ended up with.

I also got a couple more cans I didn't have;

My best buy was this can I got from my brother. It also has a story to it. Mark bought the sign and the can at Iowa Gas last year from a friend of ours. The friend bought the sign from Jackie Knott several years ago. The sign is the exact one that is shown on page 7 of the book "Sinclair Collectibles" by Benjamin and Henderson. The story also goes that Jack got this sign from Kyle Moore when Kyle upgraded. Cudahy Refining Company was consolidated by Sinclair along with all his other holding into Sinclair Oil and Refining Company on 1 May 1916. (My birthday is 1 May 1961) Sinclair kept the Opaline name and used it for the next 60 years. Anyway, the guy that had the can and sign showed them to us at the Iowa show a couple years ago but of course they weren't for sale. I think he got the can from Dave T. Then last year John Mancino had this funky looking one of a kind globe that our friend had to have. He decided to sell my brother the can and the sign so he could buy the globe from John. I then got the sign last year and the can from my brother the other week. This is a half gallon can. I assume there is also a one gallon can out there someplace?

Matching sign

I haven't bought much lately, but I did buy this old porcelain street sign at Peotone and it had 2 signs crossed over each other and they were Buffalo Street and 3 rd street! WELL, when I saw "BUFFALO STREET", I had to have it!
I did a major clean up on it and repainted the frame, and finally got it installed today! Seems perfect for the location and I hope Buffalo Street grows some yet! LOL!
The 2 little lubester paddles just arrived last week from a deal with another Old Gasser! He knows I'll buy quality Cities Service items and every once in a while, I get a call while he's walking thru someone's collection, or just moseying thru some show grounds! He' turned out to be a lot of help for my collection and a great friend to boot! Thanks to Tom Van Holten--you're one of the good guys my friend!

I had a terrible week last week but this week has been a complete flip around of that starting yesterday!
Yesterday morning I brought home the John Deere clock that I've been trying to get for almost a year and today I was able to pick this up after 5ish months of knowing about a "full sized clock face pump in the field on my buddies farm"!
A Wayne 861! My first full sized clock face.
Now I need 2 Wayne Visi-gauges!

Nice globe, very fitting for a prominent place on the mantle IMO, but I'm a bachelor with no one to tell me otherwise!

One last pic. I was able to rig a samll Christmas light in it. Hey, until my wife pics out a painting or I get the inside of the garage finished, I think it's found it's home. grin
As I lit it up, I couldn't help but think. This thing may have never been lit. Or at least not in a very long time. It was found in the attack of a little building in 1975 and has never been lit since then. And who knows how long it was in that attack. According to the globe CD this lense dates from 1931-1940.

Hi Dave, I recently picked up an 861 too. The nozzle fork is broken on mine. Ron Scobie is looking to make recasts but needs to borrow a good one to make a mold. Could he borrow yours and I will pay all shipping costs etc.
Maybe we can help you find something you need down the road.
