I don't know how much this helps, but in the mid-1980s in Minnesota, Valvoline had several Instant Oil Change stations where they not only changed your oil but pumped your gas, too. The oil change stations are still around, but the pumps were removed over a decade ago. I doubt that it was actually Valvoline gas...I'm sure it was an independent oil company supplying gas under the Valvoline brand name.

allnickcats:
There are shots of Valvoline globes in the Benjamin/Henderson book. Seems to me they were used in the 30's?
Later . . .

Pages 39 and 40 of Benjamin/Henderson's book "Gas Globes, Amoco to Mobile & Affiliates" (that's the teal-blue one).
Some real kewl looking 15-inchers from the 1920's all the way up to some CAPCO's used until 1968 +/-. All feature the 'cresent moon' with the 'dots' except the latest one for Outboard Fuel.
Maybe someone out there has one of these globes or lenses and could post a picture?
Later . . .
Jim
