Hello out there in petroliana land. I found this 30 inch double sided minute man service sign in an old barn covered in moss. Some light cleaning seemed to bring it back. Could anyone point me in the direction of some reliable info on these signs so that I could determine its age and possible value? This is my first sign but I like it so much on the wall that I think I might have to go back and get the others.
-Thanks

Your pulling my leg right? Its extremely cool but its just a sign right? Whats the best way to hang something like this? I carefully screwed it to the wall of my shop with the original holes but is there a better way? Thanks for the suggestions, I can see why you guys are into this stuff.

Wow what a great find...yeah I'd guess at least $1500-2000, it's a pretty scarce sign. I imagine several collectors are already frantically emailing you...don't sell it for $100!! (j/k oldgassers)

Enjoy the hobby, it's addictive!

not beginers luck, dumb luck. I just barely saw it sitting behind a wrecked scooter. I wish I had a picture of it covered in moss sitting in the dirt, the lady I bought it from insisted on "hosing it off" to show me how good of shape it was in. There were some others but they seemed newer (painted not enameled) and not as nice but I didnt buy those. There was a 4 foot high Union 76 "make your service appointment today" swinging pasinted metal sign with stand. Is it worth going back for? Thanks for all the feedback. I saw the one discussed here:
http://www.oldgas.com/shoptalk/ubb/Forum4/HTML/000834.html Was that guy crazy to ask 4K,? that sign looks beat up.

Also, any hints for careful hanging?fasteners with nylon buffers or?

Great site and resource thanks for your help.

Hubba,
Tom only paid $5 +/- for the fence hanger, & MUCH MUCH MORE for the nice one.

WHERE IS THE BARN ? I have 3 days off, and would drive all night for that sign ! LOL

Ike welcome to the sight. Cool sign, get the others, they probably aren't worth as much but any sign is worth the trouble. I use rubber grommets like the kind we used to use in the faucets between the sign and the screw when I put them on the wall. DoDo I was wondering if you would pick up on the scooter. Richard

Thanks for all the encouragement. As predicted I have had a ton of email from folks wanting to buy it for seemingly extremely healthy sums well above the values posted here (which I thought were incredible) Certainly inspiring to do some more digging for signs.

As for the scooter, it was a wrecked Vespa P200 with a seized engine pretty far gone. There was an old mail delivery cushman trike as well. Lots of airplanes, farm equipment bicycles etc, definately a pleasure to hunt through.

For the immediate moment the sign will hang on the shop wall (I restore old land rovers) and the sign looks right at home.

Vespa is likely worth some bux, even for parts. Any fancy balloon tired bikes could be worth a bit too, look for mens frames (Ladies are OK if they have some of the following parts),motors, horn tanks, springer forks, drum brakes , other cool accessories,..etc

Hi Ike: no one answered your original question. These signs are from the early '50's and were "curb signs" that sat in a round holder (ring)with a pipe going down to a stand. They sat outside by the pump island or on the curb. Great find and, yes, worth about $4000 to $5000 is the other side looks the same. Keep on collecting and have fun.
