Original truck plate?? There is only 3 mobil truck plates I know of.
So fantasy or real? IMO it is not legit and I will not be bidding but it looks like others are bidding. What do ya'll think?? Pay attention to the details

Tom--I think its worth questioning when an avid collector of Mobil has never seen it before. It sure won't do any damage to his auction and may improve his chances if someone has seen it before.
I have never seen it before and the mounting hole locations jumped out at me right away. That and the fact that there doesn't appear to have ever been a rivet in any of those holes? Maybe its just the angle of the picture, but the shape of the shield seems kinda different too?
I believe a nice friendly discussion on any sign is worth the time and something we all learn from. Hopefully members will learn to discuss the merits and discrepancies of these signs without bashing the listing or its owner.

Correct Kevin friendly is what I want. NO bashing.
IF it were real it would be early do to the red outline. My questions arise with the socony-vacuum and how the font looks. Look computer generated to me unlike signs I have seen form that era.
I am not asking to people to report it just asking opinions. He/she has some nice stuff for sale. I have only seen 3 truck plate. One thin boarded(pictured below) with nothing but the Pegasus and the two Richard had that faced the opposite ways. All other I have seen don't look right to me and I can't find a reason to believe differently.

Here is mine. 12"x12"

...IMO, the sign is as fake as the day is long...no reason for the design elements to be so disproportionate to the size of the space inside the shield, the curve at the bottom of the shield lacks the point, and the Socony-Vacuum lettering is computer type...

The head on the horse is really different too, could this be a foreign plate?

Looks like you guys see what i see. Head is weird, Socony-Vacuum looks funny and 3 holes on a 14x14 sign.... Bottom line no bids from me.

If you think of it, "40 Bidders" is not a big number considering eBay is worldwide, right?

That would be 40 bids. Only 15 bidders. But yes a small number of bidders for a worldwide auction house.
