Figured I would lead of with that to save you all the trouble of saying it. I wanted to do something other then red, blue, white etc like most Romans I see. I don't know if I really like it but I guess it's too late:) If I get the courage up later I may paint the access panels' letters in the body white. Maybe that would take away from the Harley-esque looking base. My wife had absolutely NO comment which is not good as she usually likes my paint schemes.

I think it looks ok but adding a little black to the top like Randy said might be a nice touch. The only thing I might have done was go with a slightly more cream color or off white like the globe background and it might not be such a contrast to the color from that pure white. Beautiful pump, any Roman is a good Roman!...GB

go with a slightly more cream color I was thinking the same thing. It would give it a more majestic and sophisticated feel. And what pump is more sophisticated than a roman. It would also take from the whole Harley thing. The upper cylinder cap should stay the same as the lower cylinder ring, but I think I would make the shades orange. Especially if the shades seperate pieces? I think they would then jive nicely with the scrolls. Just my 2 cents. Beautiful job!!!

Looks great; If you get tired of the orange send it to Texas; we like our orange colors round these parts!
Buying: Polarine / Red Crown Gasoline Globes and Signs, Early Chevrolet & United Motors Signs, and 1910's through 1940's Gas & Oil Signs.

I went right to the barn and painted the text white to break up the black & orange. Once I got back and saw the responses, I hope it looks better to you guys:) I would hate for any of you to lose sleep over this. I was afraid of carrying the black & orange to the top for fear that it would be over powering. The white is hard to see but it is an early Chrysler color and it is slightly off white but not creamy. Every single time I go for creamy I end up with just off white:( I am a Polack! Thanks guys for your comments.

...I don't think I've ever seen a Roman pump...that I wouldn't have painted differently...
...I take that back: the two Mobilgas pumps at the Pedersen (sp?) Museum were perfect...
...I guess I don't think I've ever seen a 'restored' Roman pump...that I wouldn't have painted differently...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...
