Got this Pyroil tin sign today. Has lots of wear, but thought it was pretty cool and not bad price. I am not sure what time frame it would be from but seems fairly old. It is my first real (I believe) sign. Is touching up some of the lettering not a good idea or should it be left alone. I like it the way it is but would also like to be able to read it a little better. Any opinions appreciated. Tom

is that dirt around the sides & top of the sign? these early graphics you have to be careful what you use on it- nothing with any cutter too it- if you do decide too do a "little" touch up your colors have to be dead on or its going too look worse...

Tom, found a couple things on ebay that pretty much match your sign from the 30's.. notice the type style on your sign & on the can, particularly check out the R on your sign & on the can - looks like the same style R... can on ebay # 331206090405

If you can clean that up a little, it will be real nice. And yes that sign is 100 percent real.

The sign is mounted to a worn white wood frame and what would appear to be dirt is rust / fade. I was also considering sealing with some sort of clear (thought it might bring out some of the color) but would be afraid it would further damage. . Thanks to you all for the replies.

It's your sign, do with it what is going to derive you maximum enjoyment from it. As far as touching it up, I don't think there is much you can do to it, that will diminish it's value much more then it's present condition.
